Apple and Pear Crumble

You do remember the Jumbleberry Crumble I posted some time back, of Nigella Lawson. That one was made of berries and all-purpose flour. Well, here’s another version of the crumble. This one is an Apple and Pear Crumble, and uses bread crumbs instead of flour! 🙂

  • Apples – 3, chopped
  • Pear – 3-4 chopped
  • Cardamom powder – a pinch
  • Ground cinnamon – 1 teaspoon
  • Brown sugar – 6 tablespoons
  • Butter – 100 grams
  • Bread Crumbs – 1 cup
  • Raisins – 3 tablespoons
  • Hazelnuts/cashewnuts – chopped, a handful
  • Strawberry Jam – 4 tablespoon

Pre-heat the oven at 200 deg C and grease a oven-proof dish and keep it aside.

In a pan, melt some butter and then add apples, pears, cardamom powder, ground cinnamon and 3 tablespoons of sugar. Saute till the apples and pears become nice and soft. Takes about 10 minutes. Keep aside.

Meanwhile, in another pan heat some butter and saute the cashewnuts/ hazelnuts. Once it’s almost golden, add in the raisins. Keep it aside.

In the same pan, put the remaining butter, and add breadcrumbs and fry till it’s golden and crisp. Remove from heat and then mix in the remaining 3 tablespoons of brown sugar, cashewnuts and raisins

Spoon the fruits into the greased, oven-proof dish. Heat jam in a bowl in the microwave io melt it. Then pour it over the fruit and top it with the breadcrumb -nuts-raisins mixture.

Bake in oven for about 30 minutes.

Serve hot as is or with whipped cream or ice-cream.
